On Sunday, after our lunch at West Side Market and our Dinner at Lola, we wanted to try something new in Cleveland. Neither of us had tried Dim Sum, so we read tons of reviews on the four Dim Sum restaurants in Cleveland. We decided on Li Wah. It is located in Asia Plaza just outside of downtown. We knew that you picked options from rolling carts, but we were not sure of how everything else worked. When we walked in to the restaurant, we were seated and given tea and water. The hostess left a menu and a sales ticket on the table. The ticket was used by each of the servers to mark what we chose for check out at the end. We really did not know what most of the things were that were coming around on the carts. We chose a few items and then later figured out what the names were based on pictures. I am in no way an expert on Dim Sum. It is something fun that I want to try again soon.
Stuffed Bean Curd Roll. This was a little like a dumpling only long and the ends were not closed. It was slightly salty and savory. Excellent with a little hot sauce.
Shrimp Dumpling. These had a slightly sticky outer shell with a firm shrimp filling. This was one of my favorite things if the day.
Chicken Feet. We decided that we needed to try these as we had never had them before. They were not for me. They were not crispy as I thought they would be. They were soggy with an odd flavor.
Pot Stickers. These were amazing. A great example of how good a pot sticker can be.
Hot Sauce. This is a picture of the hot sauce that is on the table. It is spicy and excellent when mixed with a little soy sauce.
Turnip Cakes. I LOVED the first bite. As I ate more of it, it was a weird savory, sweet combination. I think it takes a little getting used to.
Fried Pork Dumplings. These were crispy on the outside and sticky on the inside. I enjoyed them, the texture is not something I am used to.
Sesame Balls. I love the flavor of sesame seeds on the outside. The texture was a little odd for me. Overall, we enjoyed our time at Li Wah. I know it seems like we did not enjoy everything, but we have never had dim sum before and did not know what we would like. There is still a lot more to try and I am sure we can find even more that we love. If you are a newbie like me, I recommend Li Wah.
